Introduction Standing tall at 7075m (23212 ft) is Mt. Satopanth, which is located in the Gangotri range of Himalayas in Uttarakhand. Satopanth peak is a majestic peak which is a picture of high altitude and technical complexity. Therefore, Satopanth expedition is counted as one of the most difficult among all the peaks in the region. Added to the complex terrain is the set of unpredictable weather and thin air on high altitudes. Mt. Satopanth expedition could be the real test of the skills and endurance for the mountaineers. Mt. Satopanth peak climbing expedition is your calling if you think of yourself capable enough to tackle its challenges. The biggest factor that could be posing questions before you about Mt. Satopanth expedition is its technical complexity. Given its unpredictable weather and high angled slopes combined with dropping temperatures, it is necessary to have the prescribed experience and technical knowhow to take up the quest. The expeditionist is required to have good technical knowledge of the equipment and having prior experience of having scaled 6500m peak. Best Time The best time to scale the summit is during the month of May to September. At this time of the year the summit provides the best conditions suitable to scale the summit. The summit presents a demanding difficulty due to crevasses and rocky moraines. The air thinning will also pose a major challenge. Thus, it is necessary to acclimatize properly to with stand the unpredictable conditions.

Detailed Itinerary


Day 1

Day 0: Arrival in Delhi
You will be required to reach the office of Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), New Delhi where all your formalities will be done. It will be followed by a briefing from the Director of IMF. Foreign nationals need to attend this briefing. Take the evening bus or train to Dehradun, where you will be arriving early in the morning.

Day 2

Day 1: Dehradun to Gangotri
The road from Dehradun to Gangotri via Uttarkashi is filled with natural beauty of the Himalayas. The check-in will be at the local hotel/Guesthouse in Gangotri, where you will be spending the night and the next one.

Day 3

Day 2: Stay at Gangotri (Acclimatization)
The stay at Gangotri will help you to adapt to the new environment. This adaptation will help you to acclimatize with the situation first hand. Here further to journey all the required and mandatory formalities will be completed. A stroll around the town will benefit in the future journey ahead.

Day 4

Day 3: Gangotri to Bhojbasa
After the breakfast, you will start your journey ahead on foot to the next stop Bhojbasa. This walk will further help you to adapt with the trek ahead. By the early evening hours, you will reach the campsite at Bhojbasa. Here you will settle in your camps for the day.

Day 5

Day 4: Bhojbasa to Tapovan
From Bhojbasa, you will proceed to the next stop over at Gaumukh, which is located on the way to Tapovan. From here on you proceed to your campsite at Tapovan.

Day 6

Day 5: Tapovan to Nandanvan
From Tapovan to Nandanvan is a high-altitude trek which is filled with rough terrains and moraines. On reaching the site you will set up your camp and retire for the day.

Day 7

Day 6: Nandanvan to Vasuki Tal base camp
This will give you the real-life experience of what the mountaineering expedition is all about. The entire expedition will be monitored by our experts. Do ensure to full comply with the instructions of the expedition leader for your own safety.

Day 8

Day 7: Acclimatization at Base camp
The stay at base camp will help you to acclimatize with the conditions of the expedition. You will also get the chance to arrange your equipment and necessities.

Day 9

Day 8-19: Scaling the Summit
The expedition to the top of the summit is composed of many uncertain situations. Therefore, the time frame will be filled with the flexibility to incorporate any unpredictable situation. There will be rotational rounds between levels of the camp to help you acclimatize more with the situation.

Day 10

Day 20: Departure to New Delhi via Gangotri
After the summit scale, you will make the return to New Delhi.

Day 11

Day 21: Reserve Day
It will be the day for debriefing at IMF, New Delhi.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a level 4 adventure on the Bikat Rating Scale.

This makes it mandatory for you to have high-altitude experience of preferably multiple treks marked at level 3 on the WIMRS. The altitude, the terrain, and the nature of the climb demand a certain level of endurance and a need for you to be aware of how your body reacts to the various features of the high-altitude environment.
