Introduction Black peak or Kalanag peak is one of the highest in the region. It is located in the Saraswati range of mountains. Its resemblance to the head of a Snake gives it the name ?Kalanag?. The Kalanag peak rises to the height of 6387m. The black peak trek is located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. This is the magnificent mountain peak which is in the vicinity of some other mountain peaks like Bandarpoonch, Swargrohini and Satopanth etc. The challenge that Black Peak expedition presents to the expeditionist makes it a dominant climb to scale among all the other peaks of the region. Given the technical complexity that is associated with the Kalanag expedition, it is advised to have good understanding of all the technical details associated with the scaling of such peaks. Prior experience is going to play vital role in countering the difficulties that the black peak expedition is going to throw before the expeditionist. The thrill to conquer black peak in Uttarakhand will be a life time experience for mountaineers. Best Time The best time to scale the summit is during the month of May to September. At this time of the year the summit provides the best conditions suitable to scale the summit. The summit presents a demanding difficulty due to the 75 feet ice wall with the 70-degree gradient. Besides there will be crevasses and rocky moraines. The air thinning will also pose a major challenge. Thus, it is necessary to acclimatize properly to with stand the unpredictable conditions.

Detailed Itinerary


Day 1

Day 0: Briefing at IMF
Before the start of the expedition, there will be a briefing at the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), New Delhi

Day 2

Day 1: Dehradun ? Sankri
The first part of the journey starts with the group members collecting at ISBT, Dehradun at 7:30 am. From there the group will proceed to Sankri.

Day 3

Day 2: Sankri to Seema
We will start early in the morning. This journey is to be covered both through drive and on foot. From Sankri we will drive our way to Taluka. After some rest at Taluka, we will climb our way to Seema which will be the sight of our camps for overnight stay.

Day 4

Day 3: Seema to Ruinsara
A highly revered place for the locals, the way to Ruinsara is laced with alpine vegetation. It is at a distance of 14 kms from Seema. This is a beautiful campsite.

Day 5

Day 4: Ruinsara to Kyarkoti base camp
The route from Ruinsara to Kyarkoti is about 350m, it takes the time of 5-6 hrs. The Kyarkoti is surrounded by beautiful peaks with the vast stretch of grasslands.

Day 6

Day 5: Acclimatization at Base Camp
This day will be the rest at the base camp for acclimatization and adaptability to the conditions before our ascend to the expedition for further adventure.

Day 7

Day 6- 10: Scaling the Summit
From the base camp we will ascend to the advance base camp. From advance base camp, we will proceed to the summit camp and scale the Summit. It is to be taken into account that you will have to adapt with unpredictability of the weather at such high altitudes. So, the summit scaling could be altered keep in mind the situation beforehand.

Day 8

Day 11-14: Descend to Sankri
After the summit scale, we will make our way through the same route via Ruinsara, Seema, Taluka to Sankri

Day 9

Day 15: Sankri to Dehradun
From forest camp we will be moving to Sukhi for our return journey to Uttarkashi.

Day 10

Day 16: Reserve Day
This will be the reserve day for in case of any unavoidable reason to be accommodated into the schedule of the expedition.
