Itinerary Description

Grade: Difficult
Location: India
Maximum Altitude: 5289 mts
Duration: 8 Days

Introduction One of the most sought-after treks in Himachal Pradesh, Friendship Peak (5289 meters) sits comfortably between Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar Ranges. Facing notable peaks like Hanuman Tibba, Indra Asan, Deo Tibba, and Shitidhar, it offers staggering views of the tallest mountains in the valley. Beautiful Solang Valley, sprawling meadows, swirling river streams, snowy trails - Friendship Peak has everything a trekker could expect from a high alpine adventure. However, the stunning views and panoramas from the summit are not the only thing that excites adventure seekers about this trek. Despite being a trekking peak, it gives you the feeling and experience of being on a mountain expedition. That's what makes Friendship Peak so desirable for trekkers. Learning how to use an ice-ax, roping up, and facing unpredictable snow storms are all part of the thrilling experience. Friendship Peak is an ideal warm-up and conditioning trek to prepare for scaling peaks above 6000 meters. Best Time May-June is the best time to witness the snow-covered peak. September-October is another window offering rocky terrains and clear skies. Difficulty Level Friendship Peak is the perfect crossover between trekking and mountaineering. The experiences and challenges on this trek will prepare you for higher expeditions above 6000 meters. To reach here first, you must have enough stamina and at least a couple of 4500-5000 meters treks. The unpredictable weather, difficult terrains, and steep ascents will continuously push you out of your comfort zone.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Day 1: Welcome to Manali (2050 m)
?Arrive in Manali early in the morning. Utilize this day to settle in and acclimatize. Your body needs to adapt to changes in altitude and air before the expedition. Stay overnight in a guest house or a hotel.

Day 2

Day 2: Manali - Dhundi (3150 m) - Bakar Thach (3300 m)
?The starting point of the trek is Dhundi, a short one-hour drive from Manali. The trail is relatively easy and has a gradual ascent. As we gain altitude, we get a glimpse of the Seven Sisters. The hike is 4.5 km long. It will be evening by the time we reach Bakar Thach, a campsite amidst the lush green meadows.

Day 3

Day 3: Bakar Thach (3300 m) - ABC at Lady Leg (3840 m); 4 km, 3-3.5 hours
?Today is a bit challenging as we have to gain an altitude of 500 meters. The trek gradient is a continuous climb to the Advanced Base Camp (ABC). Don?t worry! The staggering views of the Himalayas will keep your spirits high. Expect to reach the base camp by the afternoon. It will give us ample time to acclimatize our bodies. You can see Friendship Peak from the base camp well enough to measure the target.

Day 4

Day 4: Load Ferry to Summit Camp (4000 m - 4200 m)
?New day, new challenges! As we leave behind the lush green trails, steeper slopes and slippery terrain emerge ahead to challenge our limits. Tread with caution as a thick layer of snow sheaths the rocky mountains. If you manage to look around, you will notice revered peaks like Hanuman Tibba, Indra Asan, and Deo Tibba standing tall. After reaching the summit camp, we will place our equipment in the tent and descend at ABC. It will give us ample time for acclimatization before we scale further height. Also, the rotation will reduce the carrying weight for some measurable distance.

Day 5

Day 5: Onwards & Upwards to the Summit
?We carry the remaining load to the summit camp and take the rest of the time to acclimatize and catch some sleep in the night before the summit. The real challenge lies ahead.

Day 6

Day 6: Summit Day (5289 m)
?We begin at the break of dawn. From this point onwards, it is an uphill battle. But as they say, the more difficult the journey, the sweeter the reward. Expect knee-deep snow in the spring season. In autumn, the snow melts away, leaving behind scree and moraines. We make use of ropes as the climb gets steeper. One final push to the summit, and voila! We have arrived. The summit rewards us with the staggering views of Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar Ranges. It feels incredible and thrilling to be on top of the world. After spending a few moments, we prepare to descend to ABC.

Day 7

Day 7: Buffer Day ?
?We reserve this day for a second attempt at the summit in case of bad weather conditions or unforeseeable circumstances.

Day 8

Day 8: Back to Pavilion
?We retrace our steps from the Advanced Base Camp (Lady Leg) to Dhundi. Going downhill won?t take much longer. After a quick descent and drive from Dhundi, expect to reach Manali in the evening. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure.
